Melbourne

We’ve been going strong this week seeing and doing everything we can. We are now in Auckland, New Zealand enjoying another great city and the chillier weather here. I’ll backtrack and try to highlight the things we’ve done this past week…

On Tuesday we all flew from Sydney to Melbourne for three days of fun in the city. We stayed at a hostel right in the center of downtown, which really paid off since our feet were killing from all the walking we were doing. Tuesday afternoon, I (Amber) met up with my friend Rose from Bond University, who I met when I studied abroad five years ago. We caught up over coffee, dinner and dessert – it was so good to see her and hear about her new husband, job and life. She is very generous and offered for us to use her car and eat dinner at her parents’ Iraqi restaurant anytime we wanted. We were happy to take her up on the offers!

Wednesday we drove the Great Ocean Road, which was completely worth the 10 hours that it took to get there and back. After 5 hours of windy roads, we reached the 12 Apostles in the late afternoon and spent about an hour exploring the area and seeing the magnificent ocean views. When we got back into town later that evening, we enjoyed a really nice Iraqi dinner at the Hana family restaurant. It was a new experience for the guys and they really enjoyed another food and culture.

On Thursday, we walked around the city and explored Fed Square, the Botanical Gardens, had an authentic Aussie BBQ (kangaroo, white bread, sausages, grilled onions and BBQ sauce), played pool at a pub on Lygon Street and ate again at the Hana’s restaurant.

It’s much different traveling with 3 guys, even though one is my husband. Our conversations revolve around sports, poker and beer. Here are some thoughts from the guys about the trip...

Aaron – This trip has been great. It’s been interesting learning about the different cultures. Sydney by far has been my favorite so far and I would love to visit there again in the future.

Kevin – Great trip so far, but I think the best is yet to come. My favorite day is going to be chilling at the Waiheke Island tomorrow.

Zach – Although I love my wife, it has been nice to hang out with guys and talk sports. It’s been so great having Kevin and Aaron join us for this trip down under.

This is for Elka!
We'll update more about Auckland in a few days. Today we're picking up our campervan and driving around the North Island for 5 days. We weren't able to book a flight to Christchurch, so we decided to just stick with Northern NZ and hit all the hot spots. Bungy jumping tomorrow!!
